From an initial breadboard concept development intended for planetary landers, the group has developed some novel concept for laser isotope analysis allowing compact and rugged field systems to be deployed. The first prototype targets 12CO2/13CO2 isotopologue ratio analysis.

Since its inception, applications for geochemistry, adulterated food detection, non-invasive medical diagnostics have been explored.

Who we are

The Spectroscopy Group of RAL Space carries out R&D on novel concepts and instruments for high-precision laser-based hyperspectral sensing, aiming to pioneer the development of the next generation of sensing systems needed for the demanding applications of atmospheric, space sciences, and beyond. It also offers a unique high resolution Fourier Transform facility to support many areas of science.
