Halocarbon reference spectroscopy
In collaboration with NCEO and University of Leicester, the High-Resolution Spectroscopy Facility undertake laboratory experiments on halocarbon reference spectroscopy to ensure full high-accuracy exploitation of operational measurements of these molecules in the atmosphere by space-borne remote sounders.
The experimental outputs are used to derive high quality spectroscopic parameters for provision to the NCEO community and collaborators, the NERC remote sensing community and international spectroscopic databases such as HITRAN.
The collection of reference spectroscopic data is crucial to improving the quality of data obtained from remote sensing platform, leading to a better understanding and characterisation of the radiative properties of halocarbons to ultimately assess their influence on the atmospheric radiative budget.
